Beyond The Music

Lincoln and Welland Band's own musician, Katlyn Lamont (trombone), created a video as part of a video design course on storytelling. As a culminating project, Katlyn chose to tell the band's story from her perspective.

This video was created as part of a course project on storytelling and video design.

Katlyn joined the band in the summer of 2023 and, although she’s a relatively new member, brings decades of experience playing the trombone. Prior to joining the L&W Band, she performed with the 22 Wing Band in North Bay, Ontario, and the Beer League Band in Edmonton, Alberta. Katlyn has also played in various jazz and concert bands, but her time with the L&W Band marked her first experience with marching.

In her professional life, Katlyn works as an Addictions & Mental Health counsellor and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. She has also trained as a digital storyteller under Dr. Michael Lang, using her skills to advance addiction advocacy. This training inspired her to create the “Beyond the Music” video, showcasing the L&W Band. Katlyn is passionate about mental health and substance use education and has volunteered her time to teach local cadet groups about these important issues.

Through her time with the L&W Band, Katlyn has developed deep connections and a strong appreciation for the band's history within the Niagara community. Her recent trip to Bergen Op Zoom further strengthened these feelings and played a key role in the creation of the “Beyond the Music” video.
